for example, Sphinn.com to me provides me with the most relevant information based off my own personal interests. I am a SEM AdSense Junkie... I depend on places like Sphinn for highly advanced tips and tricks on the practice of successful SEO, SEM, IM and MMO techniques. If I don't stay up to speed on these elements, my bills don't get paid and my kids don't eat.
So for me, I guess I should have stated more specifically in the question, asking more about information. Which social network provides you with the best resource of information pertaining to your personal interests.
Also... you might very well have understood the question and truly feel that Twitter does that for you. If so, that is awesome. For me, and I guess too it all depends on what you make of each network, Twitter doesn't provide me with much of anything other than a really huge soap opera pool of information that gives me little snippets of the personal side of the lives of the people I track and follow.
Granted, many people in Twitter plug some links and references. But there too is no tagging system, you can only search for people and not by subject matter or topic and all in all Twitter seems to be a nothing more than a really super big Chat Room.
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy Twitter a lot, but I just question whether Twitter would be really considered a network that has a track record of being a source of excellent information pertaining to your topic or subject of interest.
All my friends and family are there. So it's good to keep up with the jones and parties and concerts and all the things that my gang of idiots do, ya theres a bunch I dont like about facebook. Like for instance it doesnt honestly encourage communication, though it is getting better with the chat function (which my friends just dont use, nor do I honestly).
But they post pictures and events and other things which allows me to stay current with them.
As well I have most of my blogger friends and contacts on their and I have gotten some great info and discovered more new blogs with facebook that way.
So if any of you reading this wanna get your blog out there facebook is good for that.
I have a whole series of posts on just for making money with facebook and getting your blog on facebook. It isnt that complicated but has to be done right or FB will boot your butt.
Anyways yeah I like FB for the social aspect and staying in touch with my friends and bloggers. My g/f is an avid user of FB, shes in more groups of all types than you can shake a stick at and has come across some great stuff that way. So its good go to source for info.
Like I said theres lots I like About FB.
I didnt know you had an FB account dude gonna add you, mauahahahahaha one more way to pester GCDC with stupid ass questions like should forest parks bring somosas to a BBQ - love your response "who cares what anyone brings to a BBQ so long as there is lots of beer"
See this is why I like Garry. His answers are soooo spot on !!!
I haven't heard of friendfeed, gonna give it a look today at some point.
Have a good one bud
Later
Shane
you been reading my mind? But you said one? All the others feed in
I was over at twitter, and then facebook- Flock does make it easier to intergrate them all
Business wise I am leaning toward stumbleupon and i now bookmark with Delicious
it is a tough question, efficiency wise- you might be spoton with FF
I have to be honest, I'm not really sold on one at the moment. I have just recently been participating on some of the social network sites, but not really getting a ton of value from any of the ones I'm on.
1. Myspace I'm getting hammered with spam so I'm very turned off by that. In fact, it really pisses me off!
2. I have definitely enjoyed using twitter to chat with people, but you are right that there is little value being delivered!
3. Facebook has been good so far as I have some friends on there and have been keeping up with them. I am actually reading a book right now about using facebook ads to drive traffic and am probably going to give it a whirl in place of adwords for a while!
4. Stumbleupon has given me some traffic, but only when I am participating heavily. I don't find it very efficient.
5. LinkedIn has been a good tool for me when networking with other business minded folks.
6. http://www.cre8buzz.com/profiles/2910 I just signed up for and is looking a little more promising for something that I'm looking for. I will let you know how that turns out.
In my humble opinion, I think that different sites may be good for different people. For instance, I am looking for a social networking site that provides me with a place to network with friends, but also some place that's very business friendly and has a lot of entrepreneurs....not just bloggers. I don't feel that I have found that yet, but certainly let you know if I do. :)
Also, thanks for another great post and lengthy comment responses. You continue to deliver the goods!
I did check out Plurk over the weekend though. I became a little worried...its like Twitter but more addicting!
I like twitter for blog updates, I send my post updates to twitter and watch the random acts of various bloggers and marketers.
I am definitely loving friend feed, since it brings them all together...sphinn is cool for relevant info.
Garry, you may like this other one I joined recently, on my quest for more seo knowledge.
http://www.exposedseo.com/seosocial/
It's run by a guy who has a great seo blog, which I'll be exposing in the near future.
It is just starting and still sorta in beta, but I think you'd be a great addition to the site, come on over. :)
It is the one I can drive the most relevant traffic that converts while keeping up with others and discovering new things all at once.
Still Twitter?
Cause it annoys the crap out of me every time I try to click my home link but instead end up clicking the rate button.
I don't really use many social bookmarking sites as much as most bloggers do, I just leave that to my readership.
From the ones listed, Stumbleupon is by far my favorite!
